I was looking for local opportunities for community theater this summer. I’m subscribed to a few Triangle Audition groups on Facebook, and when I saw the posting for OCP’s Oklahoma, I knew I wanted to audition! Oklahoma has been a favorite since I was a kid, and I was excited to get back into the world of community theater.
2) Have you ever performed in a musical before? If so, what?
I’ve been doing community musical theater since I was 6 years old, so I’ve been in quite a few musicals! A few of my favorite shows that I have been in are Little Women, Les Miserables, and Through the Looking Glass
3) What is your favorite play/musical?
How could I pick just one? Some of my current favorites include She Loves Me, The Music Man, Ragtime, and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder. And you can never go wrong with The Sound of Music!
4) What is your “dream role?”
I had the opportunity to play one of my dream roles of Jo March in Little Women in 2013. Though the list of dream roles is always growing, I’ll limit it to three. First is Mary Poppins – she’s such a fun character with elements of mischief and mystery. Second, I’d love to play Marian Paroo from The Music Man since I love the character arc she experiences throughout the story. Last, but not least, I think Amalia Balash from She Loves Me is such a strong, complex woman with lots of humor and amazing songs to sing!
5) What has been your favorite part of being involved in Oklahoma so far?
I have loved getting to know such a kind and generous cast and crew. As far as the show, the dancing has probably been my favorite as it is so high energy!
6) What do you most look forward to about the show?
I love the moment when the cast first puts everything together with costumes, sets, and tech. I always look forward to seeing all those hours of hard work and all of the theatrical elements come together likes pieces of a puzzle.
7) What do you do in your “real” life? ie: job, hobbies, retired from?
I teach elementary school music and middle school music and drama – I just can’t seem to get away from the arts! I love watching students master a piece of difficult music or discover a love for a new art form that they didn’t know they had! When I’m not in school, I love to read, bake, and travel.
